Just Cuts Stylists once again volunteered their time and tools for the annual Cut-a-Rama event to raise over $12,000 in one night for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Since 1990, Just Cuts Clients and Stylists have raised over $800,000 for the RFDS through donation boxes in salons and the annual Cut-a-Rama event that kicks off the Outback Car Trek.

The Outback Car Trek is an annual charity car rally that donates the funds it raises to The Royal Flying Doctor Service. It raises awareness of the disadvantages many Australians face in accessing the medical care residents of major cities take for granted.

This year, 10 Just Cuts Bendigo Stylists transformed 'trekker' hair at the Bendigo Bridge Hotel on Saturday, June 1, for Cut-a-Rama, raising an impressive $12,000 from over 100 patrons who donated to the cause to have their hair cut, sprayed and coloured by the volunteer Stylists.

Nearly 100 cars departed Bendigo the morning after Cut-a-Rama on an 8-day drive over 3,900km that concluded at Main Beach in Queensland on Sunday, June 9. Trekkers use vintage 2WD cars tweaked to cope with dirt road driving.

Australian hair industry pioneer Just Cuts Founder and long-term trekker Denis McFadden completed his 25th Outback Car Trek this year in the Just Cuts Cutmobile with his partner Jenny.

The Cutmobile is a 1971 Ford with a roll cage, long-range fuel tank, and water tank. Denis drove 5,700km, including the drive to Bendigo and from Main Beach to Sydney.

Denis thanked Just Cuts Bendigo owners Vicki and Graham Bird and their team of Stylists for bringing their skills, scissors and styling chairs to the Bridge Hotel front bar for Cut-a-Rama 2024 to make it the busiest 30m2 hairdressing salon in the world.

"We've supported the RFDS for years because hundreds of Just Cuts Stylists live and work in regional salons across Australia," said Denis. "The whole idea of Just Cuts supporting the RFDS was suggested by one of our salon owners many years ago, and it's still a cause close to our hearts."

"We understand the need to fund the healthcare and emergency services the RFDS provide to support the communities that continue to support our small family-owned salons nationwide."

The RFDS provides regular fly-in and fly-out GP, Nursing, and Allied Health Clinics to support rural and remote communities. With a 7.13 million square kilometers waiting room, the RFDS provides 24-hour aeromedical emergency services to Australia.

In many locations, the RFDS is the only provider of health care services, replacing 'local' doctors and delivering health care services to families throughout their lives.

All Just Cuts salons have RFDS donation boxes available.
