Just Cuts Toowoomba Grand Central Stylist Chiaki Mori has beat over 2,500 Stylists nationally at the Just Cuts Conference on the Gold Coast to take home the Australian Stylist of the Year prize.
Chiaki has been a Just Cuts Stylist for a decade and a hairdresser for over 20 years. Chiaki won the award based on Client and Stylist peer feedback.
“I’m so shocked - I didn’t expect this and I didn’t know I was even in the running,” said Chiaki. “I’m proud to be putting Toowoomba on the map. We have the experience, knowledge and creativity to create the same styles here you see in the capital cities.”
“Just Cuts have a Stylist Facebook group and we share the looks we create. I’ve learnt so much and the feedback and support you receive from within our community is so encouraging for me.”
Chiaki says listening to what Clients want is the key to success as a Stylist.
“I make my Clients feel comfortable and they know they can trust me. They always say I’m so happy and they want some of whatever I’m having. My goal is they leave happier than when they came into the salon,” said Chiaki. “I love doing tracks on hair - I’’ll never forget one Client’s reaction, he was delighted with his new look.”
“I love my Clients– I wouldn’t be here without them. I love that they keep coming back and they’re so important to me as I’m living on my own here, so my Clients are like family to me.”
Chiaki was surprised by how in demand hairdressers are in Australia as the industry faces a persistent shortage.
“I had a job within 24 hours of an interview just after moving here from Japan,” said Chiaki.
Chiaki says Toowoomba’s top hair trends are varied heading into spring.
“With spring it’s the fresh cut , and there’s a strong mullet comeback for men and women,” said Chiaki. “Most popular products are the new Justice Miracle Dust for lasting volume, Argan Oil to protect hair from the heat and Smooth and Groom which is perfect as a daily hair moisturiser.”
